Community Picnic 2022

Headwaters families are invited to our 5th annual Community Picnic on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The picnic brings together families past and present, as well as friends of Headwaters for a celebration of our community at the end of the school year.

Join us for food, music, swimming, games, tie-dye, and more! Your ticket purchase includes entry to the venue, most activities, and your meal.

We are also looking for volunteers to help setting up, at various activities inside, and cleaning up.

  • Map of The Grounds

    When you arrive tomorrow, stop by the Welcome table to grab a map and check-in. You do not need an email confirmation or ticket print out. Just tell us your name and we will check you off. 
  • Tickets

    Your ticket purchase includes entry to the venue, most activities, and your meal.

    Tickets costs:
    • $15 for ages 6 to adult
    • $10 for ages 3-5
    • Free for ages 2 and under
    Your advance purchased ticket helps us plan for food, drinks, and activities, so buy today!
  • Volunteer With Us!

    Yes! We have lots of short day-of opportunities for volunteers to help make this picnic a success. Thank you in advance!

  • Weather & Emergency Text Alerts

    This is a rain or shine event, but if there is severe weather, we could cancel the event the morning of. Currently, Sunday’s forecast is for mostly cloudy skies, a high of 90°, and 20% of rain, but we are continuing to watch the weather. If the weather is severe, look for a text, email, or on social media the morning of. 

    For current community members who already receive our Emergency Text Alert Message, there is nothing further for you to do. If you are a new community member or don’t get our Emergency Text Alert Messages and wish to receive one, please opt in by texting "YES" to 87569.   • What is Shady Springs Party Barn?

    Shady Springs is a 20-acre property located about 15 minutes from downtown, close to the airport. The location includes a large indoor dancehall with stage, swimming pools for all ages, sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, horseshoe pits, a playscape with a slide and swings, a bounce house, 8-hole miniature golf course, tons of shaded picnic tables, and a large field for games and sports.

    There is an on-site bath house with two restrooms inside. There is also a stand-alone ADA-compliant bathroom.

    There are plenty of shaded picnic tables and indoor picnic tables for attendees. Keep an eye out for a flag with your class! There is also a big field perfect for a picnic blanket.

  • Provided Food and Drinks from Thistle Cafe

    We are so thankful to our sponsor Thistle Cafe and owners Herman and Sarah von Hapsburg for generously donating meals for the picnic!
     
    Thistle Cafe will be providing a selection of boxed lunches with a half a wrap, chips, and a cookie. We will also provide flavored sparkling water and cold water to refill your water bottle.

    • Chicken Wrap: Grilled chicken, black beans, cheese, spring mix in a wheat tortilla
    • Turkey Wrap: Smoked turkey, black beans, cheese, spring mix in wheat tortilla
    • Veggie Wrap: Avocado, black beans, carrots, cheese, tomato, spring mix in a whole wheat tortilla
    • Turkey & Cheddar Sandwich: Turkey and cheese on wheat bread.

    Limited number of Gluten Free and Dairy-Free Options Available


    If that option won't work for you or you think you may be hungry for something else, you are welcome to bring any food or drinks you wish. All we ask is no glass, no nuts, and no alcohol

  • No Pets Allowed

    No pets are allowed on site.

    Please notify us at picnic@headwaters.org if you plan on bringing a service animal (no emotional support animals permitted).
  • Navigating to Shady Springs


    Using Google Maps or Apple Maps are both efficient way to navigate to the venue. We will also have a few signs letting you know that you are headed the right direction. We also have this map that was provided by Shady Springs
  • Getting There & Parking


    Other local businesses nearby are Callahan’s General Store, Hi Sign Brewery, Live Oak Brewing, a P. Terry’s, and Carson Creek Ranch.

    We will have parking attendants to help maximize the parking area to it’s capacity. Please drive slowly down the driveway and at the fork, please take a left towards the parking lot. If the main lot fills, we have an overflow lot that we will direct guests to on-site. 

    There will be limited handicapped parking at the venue. If you require handicapped parking, please bring your placard.

  • Swimming & Life Guards

    At the larger fenced-in swimming pool (3 ft to 9 ft) there will be a lifeguard provided by Shady Springs staff. At the two smaller water areas (wading pool and splash pad), there are no lifeguards on staff.

    We ask that parents supervise their own children anytime they are near water.
  • We're a New Family, Should We Come?

    Yes! We welcome our new families to join us at the Picnic for a fun casual way to meet community members. We'll even have up signs for each current grade level so you can find some people in your child's grade.
  • First Aid

    We will have a first aid table staffed by first-aid trained volunteers and supplied with items for basic first aid.
  • ADA Accessibility

    Yes, with some planning and accommodations. There are handicap parking spaces available, and a ramp into the barn. The ground is uneven and gravelly in spot. Please let us know if you would like to make a plan.
  • COVID-19 Considerations

    This event will take place outdoors and is only open to the Headwater Community. We will follow our school's COVID-19 polices in regards to masking--currently that means mask optional.

    If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend.
