Photography

The Headwaters Photography program allows for students to actively explore and grow in this medium throughout their high school career. Starting with intro classes, students learn the basics and have hands-on learning and weekly outings around Austin. Then students have the opportunity to move into IB Photography where year on focuses on art-making exploration and rounds out in year two with development and completion of a single body of work.
High School Students will explore the basic concepts and techniques of digital photography and its application in constructing a creative working method, one that expresses ideas and/or emotions and is rooted within the fine arts. Hands-on workshops and weekly outings around Austin allow students to master technical skills and build aesthetics. A brief overview of the history of photography from creation to contemporary practice will be presented through slideshow presentations relevant to course assignments in hopes of constructing a lineage for each topic to be explored, i.e. portraiture, photo documentary, etc. Students will be amazed at the quality, intent, and personal aesthetic they will accomplish by the end of even their first year.
