Learn more about ALICE or the run-hide-resist concept we will present to students, please join Dan in the Admissions office for coffee on Tuesday, April 2 from 8:30-9:30AM.
As you may recall, faculty and staff participated in the first part of the nationally recognized ALICE training last semester. The training increased understanding of potential threats on a school campus while also offering some standard responses to such. The training was in tandem with review and revision of school safety plans conducted by the board’s Wellness and Safety Committee in consultation with an outside security firm. As a next step in our ongoing address to school safety, we will be giving a basic introduction of ALICE concepts to River Campus students on Thursday, April 4.
The goal of these presentations is to raise awareness and provide general steps in the case of a threat on campus. Students will be empowered to think for themselves in the event of a threat, to listen and act based on their best judgement. In brief, students will learn the 'run-hide-resist' mantra, a simple but effective mnemonic device approved by APD and others.
