Community COVID-19 Testing Clinic

Creek Campus- 9607 Brodie Lane
As Austin is currently seeing a significant surge of COVID-19, Headwaters will host a community COVID-19 PCR testing site next Wednesday, January 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at our Creek Campus in South Austin (9607 Brodie Lane).

If you are coming, please let us know by RSVPing the number of people who will be attending at this link. This is not mandatory to attend the testing event, but will help with day-of management.
Provided by Your Health Lab, this testing is optional and available to all members of the Headwaters community, including parents, students, and staff. Large-scale testing of our community after the holidays will help us identify any cases of COVID-19 before those individuals come to campus, and will help keep our guides, who are at higher risk than our students, as safe as possible. All community members are invited and encouraged to participate as testing is another tool in our toolbox to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This testing is also very important as we hope to return to in-person learning on the Creek Campus on Monday, January 25.

Please bring your ID and any applicable insurance information with you to the testing clinic. Individuals who are uninsured are still currently being covered through the CARES Act. Headwaters is not responsible for any out of pocket expenses that may be incurred. More details about the testing process and billing are below.

FAQs

Where do I go on the day of testing?
Testing will take place outside on the Creek Campus, on the north side of Building 1. You may park in any available school parking space. Please wear a mask and follow social distancing at all times. Walk up to the registration table to check in and the clinicians will direct you where to go.

What type of tests are offered?
Your Health Lab will provide PCR testing, which is considered to be the gold standard of active infection tests. This is administered through the more invasive deep nose swab. Each individual may also choose to have their sample taken with a throat swab, similar to a strep test.

When will I get my results?
PCR test results are available 24-48 hours after testing, and results are sent by email.

Do I need to share my results with Headwaters?
All test results will be communicated directly with the person who was tested and not with the school. We ask that if your PCR test comes back positive, you inform the school and follow the CDC recommended protocols for isolation and quarantine.

Is there a cost for the test?
Up until this point, the CARES Act has continued to reimburse laboratories for the costs of testing for uninsured patients, and it has required insurance companies to waive patient responsibility for the costs of testing for those privately insured (amongst other costs). Your Health Lab is still seeing these claims being covered, even though there is currently no extension of the CARES Act. For privately insured individuals, it is difficult to determine the amount that each insurance carrier will cover. We encourage each person to reach out to the lab to ask about their specific situation. A list of in-network providers is available here.
