A Planning Follow-up for Creek Families

Virginia Luff, Headwaters School
Hello Creek Families,

I hope this finds you all well. While we are still refining the specific details, I wanted to send a follow-up to last week's communication to give you a bit more understanding on the latest model, which is a combination of Scenarios 2 and 3. Our Creek and Admin team believe that this current model allows for flexibility and mitigation of risks for our students, guides, and families. By providing academic learning virtually for all students and providing optional on-campus visits, we are able to maintain in-person connection with guides and friends which will help to sustain distance learning.

Here are some important points to this model:
  • Academic learning will be conducted through Headwaters@Home Distance learning.
  • While on campus, your child will be assigned to a sub-group of their class consisting of six to seven children.
  • On-campus visits will be offered two times per week for approximately two hours within these consistent sub-groups. These visits will be optional.
  • On-campus visits will be outside only, with the exception of restroom access. We will have safety measures in place (physically distanced, mask wearing, hand sanitizer available). Further details to follow.
  • Students will be asked to bring a water bottle, snack, and their own outdoor folding chair.
  • We are providing these on-campus opportunities for community-building and face-to-face time with guides.
  • On-campus visits will be offered beginning the week of August 25 for new or rising students, and the week of August 31 for all returning students.
  • Because of the nature of the outside environment, extreme weather may affect campus visits.
  • We are working on the schedule of campus visits as well as virtual meetings, and will include that information with the rosters and a sample virtual schedule in our next communication in two weeks.
I know that many of you are eager for more detailed information about the distance-learning schedule. Several of our guides have engaged in distance-education trainings this summer and are working on the framework as quickly as they can, while also being thoughtful in what they are creating. Our next email on August 13 will have details related to sample distance-learning schedules. Your child's exact schedule will come from the classroom guides by August 19.

All the best,
Virginia
