More Back-to-School Details for Springs Campus

Susie Demarest
Dear Springs Families,

We are so eager to see your child's smiling face! Last Friday we completed our sixth week of summer camp. It was truly the highlight of my morning to see the children so very happy to see guides and friends! Safety and cleaning protocols were in place and the children adapted quickly and didn't seem bothered at all. They would run up to greet and stop short several feet, and we'd exchange air hugs and amazing eye contact.

Safety Procedures
As we get closer to the start of school, we wanted to review safety procedures for the Springs Campus. We have been implementing and modifying these procedures this summer with camp. They have been very successful and running smoothly. These procedures will start as soon as we have children coming to school. You will hear more about these at our virtual Class Orientations on Tuesday, August 25 (invitations and links to come).

Personal Protective Equipment & Face Coverings
Guides and all staff or administrators will be wearing face coverings at all times when with children and other adults. As we shared in our last update, we ask that Primary students bring a mask each school day. In order to participate in some activities or complete some Montessori works in the classroom, Primary children will be required to wear face coverings. If they forget or misplace a mask, we will soon have disposable masks to give students. For our YCC students, they may bring and wear masks, but we won't require them for children that age.

We want children to be familiar with and prepared to be in school with adults wearing masks, so keep an eye on your inbox for a video where guides will demonstrate their normal routine of PPE. In addition, this is a great opportunity to talk about why we wear masks to help others. We will talk about this in school, but we'd love the conversation to be started at home.

Symptom Screening with Magnus App
In order to support a more efficient drop-off, we are utilizing our Magnus health system to do symptom tracking before coming to school. This system uses an iOS/Android app (click here to learn how to download) that will guide you through a daily check. This will allow you to complete a brief questionnaire each morning to get the go-ahead to come to school. If you do not have your results to show us on your phone (green light and date), we will conduct a complete symptom check before your child leaves the vehicle. You will receive an email about this system and the process early next week

Drop-Off Procedures
Drop-offs will be in the two carpool drop off areas--Menchaca Road front door for YCC, and Berkeley Avenue Circle Drive gate for Primary. Parents will pull up to the circle drive, show the staff person the green light on their Magnus app with the current date, a secondary temperature will be taken, then the parent unbuckles the child for a second staff person to assist the child to classroom entry. We ask that parents wear masks during this time.

Pick-Up Procedures / Early Pick-Up Procedures
Pick up will also be at the two carpool areas. Pull into a parking spot, step out of your car, with amask on of course, and a staff person will bring your child to you to buckle in. We will sign them out. If you need to pick up your child early, please let us know in the morning by emailing springscampusattendance@headwaters.org. This will allow us to coordinate with guides to have your child ready at the requested time. Parents will not come into the building.

Limited Visitors on Campus
In addition, we will have very limited visitors on campus. This policy will also apply to parents as we try to mitigate as many risks as possible. To help make this easier, we will not be giving gate or door codes to parents at this time.
Staffing Updates
We are so sad to be saying goodbye to a few guides here at the Springs Campus. We are thankful for the incredible work and love they gave to each and every child they worked with. Please join us in thanking Lea Comte, Rebecca Flores Martin, and Darla Ruggerio for their dedication and talent.

As we start the fall, we are very excited to welcome two new faces to the Springs Campus! Ann Benson is joining us as a new Montessori Lead Guide in the Bluebirds classroom. Ann has been a teacher for the past 35 years with experience in Montessori Primary and teaching young ones foreign language through music. In addition, we are welcoming Erica Hudgeons as a support staff team member. Erica is a Headwaters parent of two boys on Creek and has been a guide on the Creek Campus. She also managed our summer camps this summer with great success. We are so thrilled to have both Ann and Erica on campus this year!

This fall, we have some updates to our classrooms and guides. In the Young Children's Community, the Hummingbird Casita will stay in Building 1 in the same room with lead guide Emily Crumley. The Chickadees Casita will also stay in Building 1, but in a new room with lead guide Madicyn Villalobos. Paula Sanchez and Rebecca Merino will be supporting both YCC classrooms. In our Primary program, the Roadrunners will be moving to Building 2 with guides Elizabeth Vickers and Misty Mathis. The Bluebirds will move to Building 3 with guides Chelsea Scott and Ann Benson. Support guides Angela Goss and Erica Hudgeons will be supporting the Primary classes.

Before closing, I wanted to thank each and every parent and guide at the school for their patience and dedication to what we do here. We are looking forward to seeing everyone very soon.

Gratefully,
Susie
