11/5/21: Updated Playground Rules for Upper and Early Elementary Students

Starting at recess this Monday, November 8, the children in Upper and Early Elementary will be masked outdoors with the other classes in the same level on the North playground.
As the weather becomes cooler and the COVID-19 numbers are dropping in Austin, we have decided to open things up a bit here at Headwaters on the Creek Campus.

Starting at recess this Monday, November 8, the children in Upper and Early Elementary will be masked outdoors with the other classes in the same level on the North playground. This will give these children an opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old friends. Our Creativity Club groups have been piloting this since Wednesday of this week and we are thrilled to see the students together, all while remembering our important masking and distancing rules.

At this time, K-1 children will remain on the K-1 playground and remain separate from Upper and Early El students.

This decision comes from the current numbers in Austin along with research about outdoor activities and COVID-19 transmission. This MIT Medical Answer is a great look into the research available and thinking around outside transmission with plenty of cited resources.

We all recognize the importance of supporting the social/emotional development of our children and how difficult it has been over the last 18 months to limit physical and social contact. In an effort to bring back some of the joys of being a human being, we are happy to incorporate this community-building back this Monday, November 8, 2021.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best to all of you,
Paige
