School Canceled Friday 2/3/23

Headwaters School
Due to continued power outages throughout the area and clean-up efforts on our campuses, all Headwaters campuses and offices will remain closed Friday, February 3, 2023. All classes and after-school events are canceled.

Dear Headwaters Community,

Due to continued power outages throughout the area and clean-up efforts on our campuses, all Headwaters campuses and offices will remain closed Friday, February 3, 2023. All classes and after-school events are canceled.

Please know we have been in touch with many of our guides and staff and have heard that a significant number of them are still without power. Some are supporting other family members' emergencies due to the storm and some are dealing with damaged cars and fallen trees. We know many of you are experiencing similar issues, and we hope you remain safe as the storm ends.

Campus Building Updates
Yesterday, we began assessing the safety of the campuses indoors and out. While we have already started clean-up of fallen branches, we are awaiting crews to come out and assess or trim trees that are compromised, so students will be able to safely enjoy outdoor activities.
  • On the River Campus, power has remained stable. But the internet has just gone out.
  • On the Creek Campus, there are many limbs down and the internet and wifi are down intermittently. We are also concerned about limbs in the canopy that haven’t fallen yet, and, at least, two of the outdoor tents are severely damaged.
  • On the Springs Campus, we sustained damage to the Bluebirds porch roof and had lots of branches fall, which makes the Primary playground currently unusable. We are also concerned about limbs in the canopy that haven’t fallen yet.
Important Notes
  • All Community
    • We will also be postponing our Ted Talk on the River Campus that was scheduled for tomorrow. See rescheduled details in tomorrow’s updates.
    • KXAN is reporting that Austin Water confirmed that there is no boil water notice for the city of Austin. If that changes, we will be sure to follow the city’s guidance on each of our campuses. On Wednesday, Travis County Water District 10 announced a boil water notice for its customers after an outage at a pump station. For those in District 10, we wish you well and hope it ends soon.
    • Campus Weekly Updates will not include a Director’s Note, please know they all send their best wishes to you all.
  • River Campus
    • Please note, any assignments that are due when we are closed will be extended.
    • We are postponing soccer practice that was rescheduled for tomorrow (Friday, 2/3) and will instead make next week Trial Week. Learn more here
We know that not having school is a burden for many families. We acknowledge and appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this storm. We are working hard to get the campuses ready for Monday.

Thank you all and we look forward to opening school back on Monday, February 6, 2023.

Take care,

Headwaters School
