On the Springs Campus, we have cancelled the Student Holiday/Staff Development for Monday, February 15 in observance Presidents’ Day. Instead, we will be having a student holiday/staff development day on Monday, February 1, 2021. We thank you in advance for your patience on this switch.
Virginia Luff, Director of Elementary, will be holding Parent Pitsos (Community Meetings) for Creek Parents on a regular basis. Please see your Nest Calendar or Weekly Update email for the link. If you cannot make it, we will record all virtual meetings and share in the next Weekly Update.
We invite you to join us for a virtual Pitso to ask whatever questions you may have about the information shared in this email or about the coming year. And if these lunchtime sessions don’t work for you, we will be recording and sharing.
Registration details will be shared via email and in the Nest.

Avé is looking forward to hosting monthly Parent Pitsos (community meetings) to get to know the parents better this year. Sometimes we will have a theme, a guest speaker, or just chatting and asking questions.
We have been able to reschedule our community COVID-19 PCR testing event for this Monday, February 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at our River Campus downtown at 807 Rio Grande Street.
Due to planning to return to campus around this time, we are postponing Student-Led Conferences for the River Campus until after Spring Break. New dates will be announced in the Weekly Updates soon.
We will communicate monthly about any updates to the school calendar. As a reminder, with the flexible calendar, we can extend the school year until July 30 and can utilize previously scheduled holidays (see below for exceptions).
In the event of extended closures on the Springs and/or Creek Campuses, school can be paused, and we will implement a flexible calendar – we will add days in during the school year up through July 30, 2021 in order to make up missed days. We will do this by utilizing any available days that were previously scheduled to be professional development days or select holidays.
The Springs Campus will not offer distance learning in the event of an extended closure of the campus.
The Creek Campus will offer distance learning with limits in the event of extended campus closure.
A school closure would be any day that was a regularly scheduled school day on a campus where no students are able to attend school on that campus due to the virus. That could be because we have a case in our community and are required to close the campus entirely and disinfect, or because the government has required schools to close.
If we must implement a flexible calendar through July 30, 2021 for the Springs and Creek Campuses, all weekdays (including previously scheduled holidays and professional development days) could become instructional days except for the following:
The flexible calendar allows for an extension to the school year and we will be asking guides to forgo some of their summer break. This means that during periods of closure, the guides will effectively be on their "summer break," even if it is the fall or winter.
The administrative team will be in communication and available for any questions during those times.
If we have an individual case, we will follow Austin Public Health’s guidance. We are required to report to them if we have a case or symptoms. If the governor chooses to close all schools, we’ll be required to comply. In addition, Headwaters School can decide on closure as deemed necessary without ruling from any other body. We are carefully monitoring all national, state, and local authorities, and closely monitoring local statistics like infection, transmission, and hospitalization rates.
Users can export calendars for use in another application such as the native calendar app on a smartphone, iCal, or Google Calendar.
Options for managing feeds from each of the user's calendar section will appear. Users can select whether to use a feed for the entire calendar or for individual calendars within a section (such as just games & practices).
By default, the feed's filter settings will match the events currently shown in the user's view of the calendar grid or list. So, this means, all the boxes checked on the Headwaters.org/calendar page will be part of your feed. However, users can edit these initial settings and the changes go into effect with the next refresh from those feeds. To do so, check the boxes of the feed you wish to create.
Once you have the boxes checked that you wish to have part of your new calendar export, click Refresh. Then selectt the Feedicon (blue icon on the left of Grid View) while viewing their calendar grid or list.
Using this link you have created, select your calendar application and add the calendar from the URL.
Sometimes events may appear multiple times on a calendar view, such as if the user and one of their children are both affected by the event.
If an event exists on both user’s ‘My’ calendar and school-wide calendar, the event will only show a single time with the color of the first calendar that appears on the list of calendars.
Similarly, if an event appears on more than one school-wide calendar, it will appear for a user only a single time with the color of the first calendar in the list. As calendars are selected and deselected, the color of the event may change to match the specific calendar.
