Whether your student plans to attend a four-year university or community college, take a gap year, or start their career, we support them and your family as you navigate the process with clarity and care. We help students explore their next steps through the lens of academic and social fit—as well as practical factors like cost, location, and opportunity.
We want families to feel confident, informed, and supported throughout this important process. During junior and senior year, students meet regularly with our dedicated college counselor to explore academic and post-secondary pathways. Parents and guardians are essential partners in this exploration and planning. Our comprehensive support includes:

College Visits
Each fall, Headwaters hosts admissions representatives from colleges and universities across the U.S. and abroad. These visits give students meaningful, small-group access to recruiters—and allow institutions to better understand the Headwaters difference.

Where Our Students GoHeadwaters graduates have been accepted to a wide range of institutions—from small liberal arts colleges and large research universities to art, technical, and international schools. Students in the Class of 2025 were accepted to more than 80 colleges and universities across the U.S., as well as in Canada, the United Kingdom, China, and France. Collectively, they were offered more than $8 million in scholarships, a testament to their talent, hard work, and purpose-driven journeys. |

Your Guide in the Process
Lisa Dubuque Wood
Director of Student Life and College Counseling
Lisa Dubuque Wood brings decades of experience in education—and a deep commitment to student-centered guidance—to her role as Director of College Counseling at Headwaters School. As a founding member of the school, Lisa has helped shape its inclusive, purpose-driven culture from the very beginning.
She holds a B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Secondary Education from Colorado State University, along with a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA. Lisa began her career teaching in public schools in Colorado before relocating to Texas, where her passion for individualized student support found a lasting home at Headwaters.
Lisa believes that every teen deserves meaningful, personalized attention as they navigate the complex path from high school to life beyond. Whether she’s helping students reflect on their values, polish their college essays, or chart a nontraditional path, her mission is always the same: to help young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to pursue their next steps with confidence.
