Director of Admissions - Early Childhood and Elementary
My passion for working with children began at the age of 11 when I took my first babysitting class. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching in both independent and public schools, working with students from kindergarten through grade 6. It was in Monterrey, Mexico, where I first discovered my love for the field of education and its dynamic, ever-evolving landscape.
With a Master’s in Elementary Education from Texas State University, I spent eight years in the classroom before transitioning to the role of Assistant to the Head of School. During my three years in this position, I realized my deep belief in the value of a Headwaters education and that belief developed into a passion for enrollment management and admissions work. As Director of Admissions, I have the privilege of connecting with prospective families and sharing what makes Headwaters School so unique!
One of many reasons I was drawn to Headwaters School is because of its core values: encourage curiosity, pursue meaning, let students lead, foster belonging, and live the PACT. I believe these values lay the strongest foundation for our students’ personal and educational growth.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, cherishing the moments we share as a family.

MS/HS Campus Tutor
He joins Headwaters School to lead the daily morning academic coaching hour, bringing 16 years of experience as a classroom teacher and curriculum specialist. He holds a B.S. in Family and Community Services from Michigan State University. He is the founder of Math Confidence Tutoring ATX, an Austin-based practice supporting students in math and executive function coaching.
Joshua's professional passion lies in critical thinking anchored in evidence and logic — helping students learn to reason clearly, question well, and build genuine understanding rather than memorized answers. He relies on the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) framework to make math concepts click, and works closely with students to build the organizational habits and follow-through that let that understanding stick. At the core of his work is a belief in kindness, respect, and emotional intelligence: every feeling a student has is valid, and part of growing up is learning that how we respond to those feelings is our own responsibility — a choice that shapes whether the outcome is positive or negative.
Before joining Headwaters, Joshua spent 16 years teaching and building curriculum in a range of settings — from St. Francis School, KIPP, and Rawson Saunders to Wells Branch Elementary School in Round Rock ISD — along with time in South Korea teaching English as a Second Language. When he’s not at school, he’s usually on the volleyball court or working on his Spanish and ukulele skills.

MS Outdoor Education Guide
Julie Allred has thirty-four years of soccer experience including seventeen years of coaching middle, high school, and college kids. She is a USA Junior Olympic Team silver medalist, a four-year collegiate soccer player, and also played semi-pro for the Women’s Premier Soccer League for five years after college. Julie has a Kinesiology degree and is licensed by the US Soccer Federation. Julie has a passion for sports and fitness. She is a NASM certified personal trainer as well as an individual technical soccer trainer so she has a deep understanding of the fundamentals of coaching with an extensive knowledge of the game.
Julie loves to motivate and develop players to maximize their potential both physically and mentally. She is looking forward to bringing her expertise to Headwaters and excited to get to know her new players while helping them achieve their goals on and off the field.

MS History Guide
Lei Alor brings curriculum-writing expertise, leadership experience, and enthusiasm to our Middle School community. With a Masters from the London School of Economics, he’ll use his extensive knowledge of political science and international relations to teach Becoming Society to 7th graders. He’ll also teach the Middle School Social Justice elective, and serve as an Advisor.

I am delighted to be a part of the Headwaters Family as a Social Studies Guide! After earning a B.A. in History and Sociology from St. Mary's University, I started my teaching career in Jacksonville, Florida. After spending two years there, I returned to San Antonio, Texas and continued my career as a middle school social studies teacher. I left the classroom for a few years to work as an Assessment Developer for ETS after I finished my graduate degree in Instructional Design. I am passionate about history and working with kids to help them see the connections between the past and the present.

Primary Bluebirds Lead Guide
Hello. I am a Montessori parent and guide and am passionate about whole child education as well as building strong connections with families. I grew up in a military family and moved often, which sparked my love of travel and hearing people’s stories. I eventually settled in Austin with my three kids.
I came to education in an unexpected way—my background is in accounting—but I fell in love with Montessori after my oldest started in a Montessori classroom. I hold an AMS Early Childhood certification and have been a lead guide for ten years, continuing to learn and grow alongside the children I serve.
I was drawn to Headwaters for its strong sense of community and shared commitment to meaningful, child-centered learning. Outside the classroom, I am an avid reader and love to travel whenever I get the chance.

I've spent more than twenty years working in education and nonprofit organizations. I've been a Montessori educator, IB Coordinator, classroom teacher, and school leader. Early in my career, I worked with Greenpeace, which is where I first saw what people can accomplish when they rally around something they care about. I have a bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts from New York University, and I've had the good fortune to live and travel abroad, which has been a gift. Travel has shaped who I am and how I show up here at home.
I found Headwaters while looking for a new school community to be part of. The Montessori roots felt familiar right away, and I loved how the school brings together intellectual curiosity, academic excellence, peace education, and student agency. To me, a great education pushes kids to think for themselves, take ownership of their learning, and use what they know with empathy and courage.
I hope to help families and the broader Headwaters community to find their own ways to be involved…whether that's time, skills, ideas, or just showing up. Everyone has something to offer, and I'd love to help those contributions find their place across all three campuses.
Outside of school, I like reading, watching movies, or swimming and playing pickleball. I share my home with two very funny French Bulldogs, Soki and Django, and have a soft spot for all critters…even the creepy crawly, slithering kind. Good food and good conversation with people I care about are high on my list, too!

MS English Guide
In my sixteen years as a professional educator, I have taught at all levels from elementary through college, with most of that time in middle and high school. I have mainly taught English, Literature, Composition, Social Studies, and Study Skills courses, as well as leading a variety of clubs and activities, ranging from creative writing to bicycle mechanics to GarageBand composing. Teaching has rooted me in my hometown of Austin, TX, as well as taken me abroad to Madrid, Spain; Dalian, China; and Shanghai, China. While I loved the time learning and living in other cultures, I am thrilled to be back in Austin, where my wife and I want our two sons to feel rooted, no matter where we happen to be in the world. I am even more thrilled to have found Headwaters School, as it embraces all the very best characteristics and approaches that strong international schools around the world adopt. This globally aligned focus on preparing students to engage positively with the world really sets it apart from so many of the options available. I look forward to each moment I get to spend working together with students, teachers, parents, and administrators to grow our community through connection and compassion.

I was born in Germany to Army officer parents and moved every couple of years while growing up, eventually landing in Lampasas, TX, where I got my first job as a video store clerk. I went on to major in film at TCU.
I’ve taught Broadcasting/Video Production/Film since 2011 for Fort Worth ISD, Lake Travis ISD, and now at Headwaters.
Headwaters is an absolute dream come true for me as an educator. The holistic approach to education is not something you find every day. Positive relationships and trust are the cornerstones to the successful student/educator dynamic. I am beyond proud to be part of the Headwaters faculty!
