Headwaters School is excited to bring a new scholarship opportunity to a high school student of color from the Austin area. The ideal candidate is seeking admission for 9th grade, and identifies as Black or Latinx. The scholarship will be maintained for the full four years of high school, or for the remaining years of high school if a scholarship recipient does not begin their attendance in 9th grade, as long as the student remains in good academic and disciplinary standing. The student will also be expected to engage in extracurricular programs at Headwaters, through clubs, athletics, academic teams, or student leadership groups.
The scholarship will include all tuition, fees, and school-related expenses, including books, supplies, cafe expenses, activity and event fees, and other ancillary expenses as needed. Candidates for the scholarship will meet the admission expectations of the school by completing the regular admission process, and will demonstrate financial need, as determined by the standard financial aid process. In addition, the student will complete a one-page essay on the topic of how the School’s Purpose, Promise, and PACT speaks to them. The ultimate recipient of the scholarship will be chosen through a joint committee of the admission and financial aid offices.
The Headwaters Admission Office will use its regular marketing and advertising channels, as well as work with local youth service organizations and current community members to promote this opportunity within the greater Austin area. Families who reach out to Headwaters and meet the criteria for the scholarship will also be encouraged to submit the additional essay question to be considered for the scholarship.
This scholarship has been awarded for the 2020-2021 school year. Please check back for more scholarship opportunities for the 2021-2022 school year.
