Dear Headwaters Parents, Faculty, Staff, Middle and High School Students, and Trustees --
Like many of you, we have been following the developments with the coronavirus, and we remain deeply concerned about the most vulnerable--the elderly, the sick, our health care workers, and those friends and family affected by the economic repercussions. As this situation continues to play out, we will want to consider, as a learning community committed to empathy and peacemaking, how we can support those in need. For now, however, we need to follow the guidance of the CDC and local officials to extend the closure of our campuses.
Headwaters School campuses will remain closed through Sunday, April 5. During this period, we will continue to follow and assess the guidance provided by the CDC and local officials. You will receive an email describing our plans for enrichment and/or distance learning by end-of-day Tuesday, March 24, and we plan to begin distance learning on Wednesday, March 25.
When campuses are closed, there will be no sports practices/games, after-school programs, camps, musical rehearsals, field trips, or tutoring.
To support faculty as they continue to rework their courses for distance learning, we will be working with them on March 23 and 24. Beginning Wednesday, March 25, Headwaters will prototype delivering enrichment activities and coursework to students through a variety of distance learning modalities. During those days, we will invite input and suggestions from students and parents, and we will strive to create the community we so value by experimenting with a variety of tools.
In the meantime, please continue to follow the recommendations of public health officials and wash your hands regularly, avoid close contact with people who are sick, and take other preventative measures
It is our job as Peacemakers and Advocates to act responsibly in our broader community, so we continue to ask our families to limit travel to impacted areas. If exposed to the virus, please self-quarantine for 14 days. To be clear, we have no direct evidence of COVID-19 within our school community. However, if a confirmed case develops within your family, please notify me.
Should there be other critical information to share, we will email and then post to our website
Before closing, here's a passage shared among the heads of the other local independent schools. We have been emailing frequently to share decision-making strategies, communications, and the occasional inspirational quotation. This one resonated with me, and I hope it resonates with you too.
Conversations will not be cancelled.
Relationships will not be cancelled.
Love will not be cancelled.
Songs will not be cancelled.
Reading will not be cancelled.
Self-care will not be cancelled.
Hope will not be cancelled.
May we lean into the good stuff that remains.
