Halloween, Headwaters, and History

Ted Graf, Headwaters School
The month of October has special meaning for Headwaters School, formerly Khabele School and Primavera Montessori. On October 30, 2001, we filed our Articles of Incorporation with the State of Texas, and “The Learning Community School” was born. With dedication, vision, and more than a little chutzpah, we set off on a grand journey.

Nineteen years later, we've grown into a community with 450 students, 80 dedicated educators, three campuses, and we still have a ton of moxie. Just like the imagery we chose for our rebranding in 2016, we've had many twists and turns in the river of our past, and we've grown and learned from each and every one. And now we're excited to honor Headwaters' history while we make big plans for our future.

This coming month, we're launching our primary annual fundraising effort with the goal of raising at least $150,000 in the month of October. We're focusing our campaign around four strategic priorities, and unlike previous years, we're concentrating most of our effort on two events - Founding Day at the end of October, and Amplify Austin in March. You'll learn more about those four strategic priorities in the coming weeks: Headwaters Next; Headwaters Today; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Student Experience. And if you give in the month of October, we won't follow up with you again for a gift until Amplify in March.

In the meantime, save the date for our first ever Founding Day Fling on Friday, October 30. This year, we'll be celebrating with an asynchronous, at-home dance party. To assist with the festivities, we're offering a Founding Day Party Box - complete with snacks, activities, and Headwaters swag to make your party a huge success! If you're not interested in the party box, we'll still supply a kickoff video and a playlist curated by Headwaters' own yacht rock cover band, Heavy Mellow! RSVP for the free virtual dance party or purchase a Founding Day Party Box here.

We are grateful to everyone who has helped Headwaters become what is today, and we look forward to partnering with each of you to see what it can become.

In friendship,
