Rubric Update & Stage 5 Plans

Headwaters School
We wanted to share an updated opening rubric with families today, as well as what it would look like if the City of Austin goes into Stage 5.
With guidance from the Health Advisory Group, Headwaters Leadership Team has updated our rubric (which is tied to the City’s Risk-Based Guidelines for COVID-19).

Please find the updated rubric below. As we move into the spring, we will be reviewing this rubric more frequently with our leadership and the Health Advisory Group, allowing us to modify the rubric as we continue to learn about how the virus operates and how to further offer safety to our students and guides.

Here are the changes by campus, including details about returning in January. This information was shared in your Campus Weekly Updates on Friday, December 18, 2020:

Springs Campus: Early Childhood Program
The biggest change for the Springs Campus relates to Stage 5. Because of the success of our safety protocols and your diligence in helping us keep our community safe, we plan to remain in school 4.5 days a week if the City of Austin shifts to Stage 5. We understand that some families may not feel comfortable sending your children to school in Stage 5, and we’re working through options for your enrollment to remain flexible. If you are interested in pausing or deferring your enrollment during Stage 5, please reach out to the business office to discuss options.

Creek Campus: Elementary Program
The biggest change for our Creek Campus was to reflect the move to bring children onto campus each day in both Stages 3 and 4.

We hope to remain in Stage 4 when we return in January as we are looking forward to welcoming back more of our Upper El on-campus learners. However, we are watching the numbers and know that Stage 5 is probable. If the City of Austin goes to Stage 5 over the break, we will transition to distance learning, and all Creek students will begin school virtually on Tuesday January 5. Please see your class update for Tuesday morning start times and Zoom links. Guides will send detailed Distance Learning schedules on Monday January 4.

Additionally, I wanted to remind parents about the possibility of the extended calendar. School will be paused after three weeks of distance learning for K1 through Upper Elementary. If Austin is still in Stage 5 the week of January 25, we will stop school, go on break and make up that time in June. The Arctic Terns (our full time Distance Learners) will not pause school, but will instead continue Distance Learning with Sunni and Christi. For so many reasons, I hope that if Austin goes to Stage 5, we will not be in it for long.

River Campus: Middle and High School Programs

Classes will resume with our online schedule on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Whether we are in Stage 4 or Stage 5, the schedule when we return on Tuesday, January 5 is at this link for the River Campus Master Bell Schedule

An important note: For the first week of school, classes will be 60 minutes. Should we be in Stage 5, in January our Headwaters@Home classes will continue to be for 60 minutes in duration, with the option to increase instructional time to 75 minutes.
