Creek Distance Learning in Stage 5 Update

Dear Creek Campus Parents,

After meeting with our Health Advisory Group earlier today and hearing their recommendations, we have decided to reopen the Creek Campus to in-person learning beginning Monday, January 25. The group reviewed and assessed the current data provided by Austin Public Health, including current case numbers, hospital admission, ICU numbers, and  positivity test rates. While the numbers are still concerning and require ongoing monitoring, cases are leveling off and are not currently rising dramatically. The Health Advisory Group also believes that we are past the post-holiday spike in cases. When we took all of this into consideration, we concluded that we can reopen.

In order to sustain this decision, we need all members of the community to diligently follow the expectations listed below. If the numbers surge again or if we learn that there has been transmission or exposure on campus, we will need to reconsider our plans and potentially revert to distance learning. Our guides and the students deserve our vigilance. Here is what we’re asking of Creek community members.
  1. Continue to complete the Magnus Health App daily.
  2. Follow all expectations regarding the fit, wear, and care of masks. We will continue to refine our procedures and expectations in this critical area of prevention.
  3. Observe and follow all social distancing guidelines whether on school grounds or not.
  4. We encourage families to limit or eliminate additional out-of-school activities that could contribute to transmission. Transmission is occurring at a higher rate outside of school settings, including extracurricular activities like travel sports. There is also a higher risk related to carpooling, so we ask that whenever possible, you limit that activity.
  5. We encourage families to limit or eliminate visits to restaurants. Eat outside or choose take-out to limit exposure and transmission.
  6. Stay home if you’re sick.
  7. We encourage families to lake advantage of the many testing options available in our community
  8. We encourage families to limit travel to only what is essential. Consider quarantining after any necessary travel to keep the rest of our community safer.
Over the next couple of days, I’ll be working with the guides on preparations for next Monday. Here is the schedule by program for in-person learners:
  • K-1: Students on campus 4 days per week with distance learning on Wednesdays.
  • Early El and Upper El: Students on campus 4.5 days a week, with a half-day on Wednesdays.
  • We will offer Early Arrival at 7:45 a.m. and Creativity Club until 5:30 p.m. for each program.

In addition, I will email families who indicated that your child(ren) will participate in Distance Learning while Austin is in Stage 5. Please watch out for the email with a form shortly. Arctic Terns Distance Learners will continue with their schedules.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our community well.

All my best,

Virginia
