Tech Requirements

Headwaters School is a Bring-Your-Own-Device school. Students will use a laptop computer to work on assignments and to view communications from their guides. Students are required to have a charged laptop and charger with them every day. The IT department may have a few loaner devices for those who forget their devices. These will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be returned at the end of the day unless special arrangements have been made. See all the technology requirement details at this link.

Summer Reading & Assignments

At this link, Headwaters MS/HS Summer Reading, Book, & Novel List 2021-2022, families will be able to search by grade for information on the books and novels to purchase for summer reading. We will once again be partnering with Black Pearl Books for an easy way to purchase summer reading through their bookshop site. In August, we will share other books and texts that will be used during the school year, but the link above currently includes the following:

Supply Lists

As you prepare this summer, here is a list of basic supplies for Middle and High School. Please note, each guide will communicate required materials specific to their subject areas during the first week of school and as needed. Click here to view the Headwaters MS/HS Supply Lists 2021-2022.

New Student Orientation 8/19/21

We are looking forward to welcoming new students to campus on the morning of Thursday, August 19 from 9:00-11:30 a.m. This scheduled visit xwill help new students meet some other students, see the campus, walk their schedule, check tech, meet guides, and get excited for the school year! Parents are also welcome to hangout after drop-off for a casual cup of cold brew on the deck with other new parents and admin.

Here are some things that you can expect later this summer:
  • Schedules will be available in early August in the Nest. We will email students and parents when ready.
  • Families will be receiving information about Magnus student records next week to be sure all student records are up to date.
  • A full Calendar of A/B Days will be shared with families in August. It will also be in the Nest.
  • The Family & Student Handbook will be shared in early August. We will also still be utilizing our COVID-19 Addendum to allow for nimble policy changes when necessary. This will include masking policies, illness policies, and more.
  • We are rescheduling the Headwaters 101 New Family Event for August and will let new families know the new date soon!

Support Headwaters and Austin FC this Season!

Headwaters is raising money for the school by running concessions at Austin FC home games this inaugural season! We’re volunteering with Valentina’s and the school will take home 10% of Valentina’s sales after each home game to support the Annual Fund. Sign up for one or more shifts here.

Volunteers are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts. Bring your friends and family to volunteer, too! Volunteers must be 18 years of age and TABC Certified. Learn more about volunteer requirements at this link.

Volunteer Interest Form

Our Parent Volunteer Community (PVC) is made up of all Headwaters parents! We want every parent to find a way to contribute to the school in a way that feels meaningful to you. We rely on your support to realize our school's purpose and promise while keeping costs down, and we really appreciate your participation. Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents, learn more about the school, and contribute to our community’s success. Fill out this form to indicate what areas you might be interested in volunteering to support during the coming school year. If you have any questions, please reach out to Amy Nylund at a.nylund@headwaters.org.

Parent Facebook Group

If you are interested in connecting with other Headwaters families, the Parent Volunteer Community (PVC) moderates a private, unofficial parent Facebook group for the Headwaters parent community. This group is a great place to connect with other parents, organize carpools, plan meet-ups, etc. Email pvc@headwaters.org to be added. This group is primarily social and is moderated by parents, so if you ever have specific questions about school-related things, please reach out to your campus manager for a quick answer rather than posting the question to the Facebook group.

Community Business Directory

One of the best features of our school community has always been the deep level of caring amongst parents, guides, students, and staff members. We invite you to check out and support businesses owned by Headwaters community members in our Headwaters Community Business Directory. If you want to add your business or update information to the Directory, you can do so at this link.
