FAQ About COVID-19 Protocols

Headwaters School
Check out this FAQ that was shared in the Campus Weekly Updates on 9/10/2021 and updated on 9/23/21.
In order to keep our community healthy, our COVID-19 Addendum lays out protocols and policies that help us create layers of protection to keep us in-person and in-school. We ask that ALL community members help us by following these protocols, especially with the high transmission in the area.

Here are some common questions and answers:
  • [UPDATED]What if my child is sick or showing any COVID-19 symptom? If your child is feeling sick and doesn’t pass their Magnus symptom screening, please do not send your child to school. Please notify the school and see page 8 in the COVID-19 Addendum for how to return to school.
  • What if I think it’s just allergies? Please contact your medical provider to get a note for the school to keep on file. Until we have that, we will treat these as symptoms of COVID-19. This also goes for asthma or other baseline symptoms of COVID-19.
  • What if my child is exposed to someone who has COVID-19? If your child is unvaccinated and is deemed a closet contact of a person with COVID-19, they will need to quarantine. Vaccinated people do not need to quarantine, but we recommend testing 3-5 days after exposure. A close contact is defined as: “Someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, two days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.”
  • How long does quarantine last? Quarantine starts the day after exposure and may last 14, 10, or 7 days. Please see this APH chart for how we will determine quarantine length and please note, if your child is exposed to someone with COVID-19, is unvaccinated, and masks are not worn, the quarantine length is 14 days. The school will provide a return to school date for you using this information.
How do you contact trace? Headwaters school has two staff members who help with contact tracing and we get support from Austin Public Health (APH). We work closely with APH to help determine next best steps based on the case.
