We are so excited to welcome Melissa Petrich to the River Campus as a Middle School Math Guide.
Melissa, a native of Minnesota, started her educational journey while in college where she worked in the mathematics resource center tutoring other students on campus. She really enjoyed the various math topics she helped students with, so she continued onto another college where she coordinated their math center.
In 2017, Melissa and her husband made an exciting move to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. There, she taught math at the local International Baccalaureate middle and high school, focusing on grades 8, 10, 11, and 12. She noted that she ”fell in love not only with teaching, but also with the IB mission.”
This past spring, Melissa and her husband made another big move to Austin for her husband’s career. Melissa knew she wanted to continue teaching at an IB school and found us!
What Brought Melissa To Headwaters:
From my first conversations with the staff at Headwaters, it felt like a supportive and authentic environment. The drive to represent, welcome, and protect students, staff, teachers, and community is strong at Headwaters. I have been enjoying building relationships with my students and getting to know them a little more each day.
Fun Facts About Melissa:
I have a lot of hobbies. I am kind of a hobby jumper (hobbies are my hobby?).

I am a professional soap maker and have also been spending a lot of time on small woodworking projects.
I really enjoy living where I live so on weekends, my husband and I spend a lot of time exploring Austin music, restaurants and hikes
