In Response to “TikTok Challenge” Rumors

Ted Graf, Head of School
Dear Headwaters Community,

As you may know, there has been news circulating about the social media platform TikTok and alleged encouragement for people to call in safety threats to schools today, December 17. We are aware of the situation and actively monitoring developments related to it.

Our school has not received any threats and we have been working closely with our security consultant, Anthony Dennis, to stay informed. Mr. Dennis has informed us that there are no credible threats nationally, locally, or within our community as of this time. We are also monitoring any updates from the Austin Police Department. As is our regular protocol, if there are any safety concerns, we will work closely with law enforcement to investigate and determine next steps to keep all students and staff safe.

The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority, and we are grateful for your ongoing partnership in this effort. We encourage you to take some time to talk with your students about the influence of social media and the potential consequences of engaging in behavior that negatively impacts others. We must take every threat seriously and students who participate in any threatening behavior will face serious consequences in accordance with our school policies.

We appreciate your support in keeping our Headwaters community safe. We will keep families in touch if anything develops. For events like this, we would utilize our Emergency Text Alert service to push out messages to families quickly. If you are not opted in, please click this link for more information.

Sincerely,
Ted
