Headwaters Emergency Text Alert System Opt-In

Jason Lewiss & Tom Sellstrom
Send Date: 8/22/22

Dear Headwaters Community,

Headwaters School uses short-code texting to ensure reliable emergency text communication in case of an emergency, weather updates, or other urgent situations. Messages sent through our Emergency Text Alert are usually followed closely by an email with more details. It is important that parents, guardians, and employees with cell phones receive these timely communications.

With forecasted heavy rain rolling in this week and a Moderate Flood Watch from the NOAA for this afternoon through Tuesday morning, we want to have this system available if needed. However, even if there is no cause to use this system, we urge all drivers to take caution when on the roads and leave plenty of travel time. Please avoid driving where water covers the road. If you cannot make it to school for any reason, please email your campus attendance email to inform them. We also encourage sending students in weather-appropriate clothing and footwear.

Later today (Monday, August 22) at about 2:00 p.m., all parents/guardians and guides with cell phone numbers in the Nest will be receiving this text message from us:

This is a test of the Headwaters Emergency Text Alert System. If you have not already opted in, follow the instructions in the next text message. Thanks!

Next Steps

  • If you are new this year or have a new cell phone number in the Nest, you will then receive a follow-up text with these instructions: "Headwaters School would like to continue sending you text messages. To receive these messages, please reply YES.”
    • Please note, these initial texts will come from a 424 area code phone number.
    • You must reply with "YES" to opt in.
  • To opt in to future text messages from Headwaters School before the text is sent, text "YES" to 79041 (this is a new number as of 4/14/2023).
  • If you are a returning community member with the same phone number who has previously opted in, you should receive the first message and no further action is needed.
  • If you don’t have a cell phone listed in the Nest, you will not receive a text message from us. Please update directly in the Nest Contact Card or reply to this email for support.

Notes

  • Please note, this system is different from the text message notifications that you can set in the Nest through your Nest Notification Settings.
  • We will be getting middle and high school students with cell phones set up in this system later this month.

If you do not receive a text from us today, please email it@headwaters.org. You can also email with any questions.

Sincerely,
Jason and Tom
