Frequently Asked Questions
What is Blackbaud ID (BBID)?
Blackbaud ID is your central identity to securely sign in to Blackbaud solutions and services. For more information, see the
Blackbaud ID overview.
What is Blackbaud?
Blackbaud is a software company that powers our Learning Management, (LMS), Student Information System (SIS), Tuition Management, and Website. We have dubbed our system “The Nest,” but it is powered by Blackbaud.
Can I use the same email address as my partner for both of our accounts?
No. Each person is required to have their own unique email address for their BBID account. If you have previously shared an email address in the Nest, please reach out to
it@headwaters.org to provide a second email address.
Why is this move important?
For safety and security reasons, changing to BBID is required by Blackbaud.
Is there a Single Sign-On (SSO) process so I don’t have to remember another password?
Yes, users can use Google SSO. Users who choose the “Sign up with Google” option will authenticate through their Google account and will not need an additional password to log in to the Nest.
Can I change the Email address you have on file for me? I’d like to use my Gmail so I can use SSO.
Yes. If you would like to use an email address different from what we have on file for you, please send a message to
it@headwaters.org before signing up for BBID.
Missing your confirmation email?
First, double-check the email address associated with Headwaters. If you don't find the email in your inbox or Junk folder, your organization's email server may have blocked it. Ask your IT admin to:
- Ensure the email server, proxy server, and firewall allow email from:
- @blackbaud.com
- @blackbaudondemand.com
- @blackbaudemail.netcommunity1.com
- Whitelist this Internet Protocol (IP) range on your email servers or network appliance:
- 205.139.104.0/22 (205.139.1 - 205.139.107.254)
Signed in with Apple or Google but want to authenticate through Blackbaud instead?
If you previously signed in with Apple or Google on the
Blackbaud ID sign-in page but want to switch back to Blackbaud's secure service, go to your
Blackbaud ID profile and select Turn off Apple authentication or Turn off Google authentication.
When you turn off authentication through a social sign-in, you receive an email at your Blackbaud ID email address to reset your password to meet the requirements of Blackbaud's secure service. For more information, see
authentication settings.
Have an issue with your password?
If you forgot your password, no worries; it happens!
If you sign in through Blackbaud's secure authentication service, you can reset your password. On the
Blackbaud ID sign-in page, select Forgot password, enter the email address associated with your Blackbaud ID, and select Send. You receive an email with a link to reset your password. If you don't receive the reset password email, check your Junk folder.
If you sign in through Apple or Google, change your password through
Apple or
Google.
Need to change your Blackbaud ID email address?
If you authenticate through Blackbaud's secure service, you can easily change the email address associated with your Blackbaud ID. On your
Blackbaud ID profile, just select Edit BBID email address, enter your password, and enter and confirm the new email address.
If you authenticate through a social sign-in, such as Apple or Google, or if your organization enables single sign-on (SSO), you can't manage your email address on your profile. Instead, you manage it through the social sign-in or your identity provider, respectively.
Need to reset your password after your account was locked?
When you try to sign in after your account is locked, you are redirected to a page that explains why the account is locked. Follow these steps to reset your password:
Select the button to reset your password.
On the page that appears, submit your email address.
Check your inbox for an email to reset your password.
In the email, select the option to reset your password.
On the page that appears, enter a new password.
On the confirmation message, select the button to return to the sign-in page.
Have an issue with multi-factor authentication?
Multi-factor authentication increases security by requiring a unique verification code that you receive on a personal device in addition to your email address and password. If you can't sign in with multi-factor authentication or have an issue with your verification or recovery code, see
multi-factor authentication.
Why is reCAPTCHA making me verify my email?
If reCAPTCHA suspects that traffic is from a bot and prevents you from signing in but you have access to your email, then you can bypass reCAPTCHA using the One Time Password (OTP) workaround. This automatically emails an OTP code when reCAPTCHA prevents sign-in and displays a modal for you to enter the code. The code is valid for only 10 minutes.
