From Montessori to MYP: Launching Lifelong Learners (Virtual Event)

Virtual Event
What if school could spark more curiosity, build lifelong skills, and help students thrive in a changing world?

Join us virtually on Thursday, October 16, from 6:30–7:30 p.m. for a special look into the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)—a powerful new direction for Headwaters students in grades 6–10.

As a candidate school for the MYP, Headwaters is embracing a globally recognized framework that:
  • Fuels student voice and choice
  • Connects learning across subjects to real-world challenges
  • Builds the skills that matter most—like resilience, curiosity, and empathy
We’re not just adopting a new program—we’re deepening what we do best.

Why it matters:
Students in MYP programs consistently outperform their peers in reading, writing, math, and science—especially in middle and early high school. Research shows that MYP learners are more engaged, more prepared, and more empowered to lead their learning.

Studies show:
  • MYP students are more likely to score "proficient or advanced" on state math and science assessments.
  • They outperform non-IB students in reading, writing, and math—especially in grades 9 and 10.
  • They show stronger performance in critical thinking and scientific reasoning by 8th and 10th grade.
During this session, Dr. Avé Luke-Simpson, our Director of Academic Strategy & IB Programmes, will lead a guided exploration of what MYP means for your child—and how it aligns with our mission to cultivate curious, creative, and capable young people.

If you can’t make it live, we’ll share the recording in Friday’s update.
