Headwaters Project Week 2018: Middle School and High School

Headwaters Middle & High School students spent the week before Spring Break engaged in group and individual projects in Austin and beyond with the objective of exploring interests, developing passions, bringing an idea to reality, and sharing an experience with others. Project Week, as we call it, is an annual program where all students design, develop, implement, and present a project of their choosing.

Let’s see what our students were up to this year!

6th Grade Emilie spent her project week writing and illustrating a story in French, her first language.
Emilie read her story to the class and received many accolades from the students who loved the book and followed right along in French!
7th graders Max and Adrian picked up this go cart body and started their re-build by grinding away rust. After putting it all back together, it looked great, but wouldn’t run! Turns out a new clutch was the answer. This re-build was both mechanical and aesthetic!
8th grade Luna’s Huichol project: Huichol is a traditional Mexican folk-art practice using intricate bead-work. Luna has been working hard all week to create these fantastic artworks.
8th grade Paulina spent the first part of the week focused on the Italian art classic “The Last Supper.” Her take included a girl power themed collage on a canvas. Check out her process!
8th graders Judah and Sydney took their musical skills and wrote their first musical over project week.
Flux: Gender Deconstruction through Portrait Photography — Portrait of a friend in a thrift store by Sasha. Sasha says, “I wanted to learn more about what gender identification and expression means to different people and explore the boundaries of societal expectations.”
10th grade Taylor went behind the scenes with Planned Parenthood to learn about the organization. She also is helping with a presentation for our Creek Campus later!
7th grader Tyler’s project focused on wood-working. He learned about different types of cuts and made this table!
