Women's History Month

National Women’s History Month, celebrated each March, honors the economic, political, and social contributions of women throughout history. It grew out of efforts to recognize women's often-overlooked role in historical narratives—beginning with protests for fair labor and voting rights in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and gaining momentum through the establishment of Women’s History Week in 1978. In 1987, Congress officially designated March as Women’s History Month, following advocacy by the National Women’s History Project.
