Our Hearts Are with Central Texas

Headwaters School
Our hearts are with everyone affected by the floods in Central Texas. While our campuses are safe, many in our community are grieving. We’ve shared ways to help and how to support children through this on our blog here.
The recent catastrophic flooding across Central Texas has left many families devastated,
grieving, and in urgent need of support. Lives have been lost, communities uprooted, and beloved
spaces—including a girls’ summer camp—forever changed.

Though our campuses remain physically unaffected, we know that the emotional impact reaches deeply into our community. In a school founded on the principles of empathy, agency, and interconnectedness, we recognize our shared responsibility to care for one another—especially in times of crisis. It is with this spirit that we express our heartfelt sympathy for all affected.

Ways to Support

We can extend our care by amplifying trusted resources and opportunities to help.
  • In response to the devastating July 4th flooding in Kerr County, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has launched the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund to support local relief and recovery efforts. 100% of donations go directly to organizations providing on-the-ground support to affected communities. To learn more or contribute, visit Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.
  • Austin Monthly magazine has compiled a list of ways to contribute, from local business drives and profit donations to volunteer needs: How Austinites Can Donate to Those Affected by the Central Texas Floods.
Whether you are able to give, serve, or simply hold space for those grieving, we hope this resource helps guide your response.

How to Talk To Your Children

In the aftermath of the Central Texas floods, many young people may be experiencing confusion, fear, or sadness. It’s natural to wonder how to talk with children about difficult events. These trusted resources offer guidance for age-appropriate, compassionate conversations that can help children feel safe, heard, and supported.

Our friends at Connected Family Partners, Brianna Berkowitz, MSEd and Jasmin Vara, LPC, are hosting a webinar on Thursday, July 10, at 9:30 a.m. called Talking with Children about the Floods. To register please complete the form here. They are offering this webinar free of charge and encourage all who are able to donate to Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

Compassion in Action

Our Parent Volunteer Community (PVC) has a special committee called Compassion in Action, designed to help those in need in our own community. Please reach out to compassion@headwaters.org if you or someone at Headwaters needs support.

Please take care.
