At Headwaters, even our youngest students are invited to explore big ideas through hands-on, meaningful experiences. In Primary, map-making isn’t just about geography—it’s about belonging, curiosity, and laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Their journey begins with wonder, and that makes all the difference.

When we explore the world with our youngest students, we set the stage for a life of inquiry and wonder.

Maps at Headwaters are much more than lessons—they’re invitations to explore and wonder.

As part of our Primary Montessori curriculum for ages 3-6, our learners have been creating their own maps of the world, coloring in continents and countries, letting their imaginations roam.

But in the Montessori classroom, map-making is much more than a geography lesson. It’s a sensorial, hands-on experience that connects children to the wider world and to the idea that they belong to something larger than themselves.

Through this work, students develop concentration, independence, and fine motor skills, but even more importantly, they begin to understand what it means to explore with purpose.
