M.L.K. Day Clothing Drive

River Campus Building 2 - 805 Rio Grande St., Austin, TX 78701

In support of Lifeworks, a local non-profit which provides services to youth and families experiencing homelessness, we are focusing our collection efforts on backpacks, clothing (especially men's and larger sizes), jackets, sleeping bags/blankets, panchos and shoes for teens experiencing homelessness. In addition, Lifeworks has requested donations of new, packaged underwear and socks (in teen and adult sizes) as well as razors and deodorant.

Whether it's the changing of seasons or new items added to your wardrobe from the holidays, we invite you to clean out your closets. Please bring your unwanted items (any and all!) to the River Campus on Monday, January 21st between 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The Headwaters' Parent Volunteer Community (PVC) will be hosting this event while students and staff have the day off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Bring items to campus on your way to the MLK Celebration, or stay and help sort and assemble donations. This all-ages clothing exchange and community-building event is open to the entire community!

Any items remaining after the Lifeworks donations will be brought to Savers Thrift Store in exchange for a per-pound monetary donation which we will give to LIfeworks as well. Items that don't sell at Savers are shipped to rural African villages for distribution.

Volunteering
Students and parents can participate in community service by assisting with sorting and assembling boxes of donations for Lifeworks' youth. Show up anytime between 9 and 2, there is no sign-up required.

What can I donate?
Bring new packaged underwear and socks, hygiene products, and used jackets, sleeping bags/blankets, panchos, clothing, shoes, housewares, accessories, books, toys, and athletic equipment donations of any size and condition right to campus on Monday, January 21 between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
