One More Note Before the Weekend (Creek Campus)

Virginia Luff and Ted Graf
Dear Creek Campus Families,

Since our communications to you on July 30 and August 3, we have received many constructive questions, comments, and suggestions. We have also heard your confusion and have felt your worry and skepticism. In the spirit of direct communication, we are sending this short follow-up to let you know that we hear you, and, even when we disagree, we are thankful for your continued engagement. The school is better for it.

We know many of you are eager to hear more specifics, and we are eager to finalize those details and share them with you next week. To be candid, as faculty return full-time, we need the next few days with them to be sure our thinking and planning reflects the quality and attention to detail we all value.

As many of you have noted, our families are expressing a wide range of opinions on what they need and what they believe is the right course of action for the Creek Campus. Whether you believe the campus should be fully open or whether you intend to take full advantage of distance learning; whether you feel like a hybrid option is sufficient or whether you believe the opening of school should be delayed, it’s important to remember that we are balancing the health and wellness of our guides alongside the educational needs of the students. If we turn this tension into an either-or choice, we will not be fulfilling our obligations to the children as we aspire to be peacemakers and find workable compromise.

We are focused on meeting the needs of students, first and foremost, in partnership with families and guides.

Next Thursday's communication will include:
  • Class Rosters
  • Greater clarity on what conditions will cause us to activate Scenario 1 or Scenario 2
  • On-campus schedules
  • Sample Distance Learning schedule (specific schedules will be sent by your child's guides on August 19)
  • Details describing our Distance Learning preparation specific to Montessori curriculum
As a reminder, we will be starting school as we planned and stated in our July 30 communication at this link

Our intention is the same as it has been since we closed school on March 13--to be as agile as possible and do our best to transmit that agility to the students, to adapt to a rapidly changing reality, and to communicate with you honestly and frequently. We know we have more work to do, and we are committed to that work so we can get our children learning again.

Thank you for hanging in with us.

Feel free to send along questions, suggestions, or resources to us at planning@headwaters.org.

With respect and gratitude,

Virginia & Ted
