Stage 4 Update for River Campus

Headwaters School
Dear River Families,

Earlier today, Austin-Travis County moved out of Stage 3 and into Stage 4 based on Austin Public Health's (APH) Risk-Based Guidelines due to rising cases and hospitalizations. To learn more about this shift, please see the press release here

Here are the important notes for this shift:
  1. We will not attempt 7th and 9th grade hybrid prototyping the week of 12/7. Please know we will continue to prepare the classrooms and the campus for prototyping. Because Austin has now moved the city into Stage 4, prototyping is likely to be postponed until January.
  2. We are postponing the Wednesday, 12/2 enrichment session. We are not yet canceling the sessions for 12/9 and 12/16 in hopes that we will be able to welcome students to campus in some capacity on those days. We do realize that this is different from the original rubric. We will be revisiting this rubric on December 1 with the Health Advisory Group and will share any adaptations that are made. Updated enrichment schedules will be available after the Thanksgiving break.
  3. We will continue courses for students following the format established this semester.
  4. We're working hard to finalize the logistics associated with the testing program mentioned at Tuesday's all-River Pitso. Since there will be no in-person instruction the week of November 30, those details will be available after Thanksgiving Break.
  5. Should you have questions about Stage 4, and what it means for you at Headwaters, please reach out to riverplanning@headwaters.org
We continue to work hard and appreciate all families' diligence in mitigating risks. Thank you for your understanding through each step of this process.

We know there are concerns about family, student, and colleagues' travel plans and the risk of exposure to COVID 19. We share those concerns and will continue to emphasize risk mitigation and safety with all members of the community. Along with our request that both students and guides who are traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday remain off campus for 14 days, and with prototyping postponed and COVID testing protocols in process, we hope that provides more comfort to all members of the community.

Furthermore, if your child is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms, please keep them home and reach out to your primary care provider for next steps. As you make plans, please consider your method of travel, destination, and other risks associated with travel and gatherings. See CDC's After Travel webpage for additional information. See our COVID-19 Policy Updates and Reminders for more details.

Thank you again,

Avé, Roberto, and Paul
