Headwaters and Khabele Alumni—Let’s connect!

Lisa Dubuque Wood
Dear Alumni,

It is incredible to think that 20 years ago, a group of four educators (including me!) and nine students embarked on an audacious experiment to create a new type of school in Austin, the Khabele School. And just one year later, another group of four educators gathered together to create Primavera Montessori School, an early childhood learning community focused on supporting the learning styles, spirits, and emotional intelligences of all children.

Over the years, both schools grew, eventually merged, and then, in 2016, we renamed ourselves as Headwaters School. All the while, we have continued to help students learn to live authentically, think expansively, and create bravely.

This year marks our 20th anniversary and we want to reconnect with all of you! We are hosting an Alumni Brunch on Saturday, October 16 from 10 a.m. to noon outside at the River Campus. Come mingle with staff and your fellow alumni while enjoying breakfast tacos from our food truck! Click here to RSVP!

If you are a parent of an alumni and receiving this invitation, please forward it on so we can connect with your student.

If you’re not able to make the brunch, we hope to see you at our 20th Anniversary Founding Day Fling on Saturday, October 23. This 21+ event will be our biggest celebration of the year! Come hear the sweet sounds of Heavy Mellow, Austin’s premier yacht rock cover band — including band members Kelly Dickens, Marc Lionetti, and Cait Taylor!! Purchase your tickets here!

Unable to come to one of our in-person events? Email alumni@headwaters.org with some of your favorite memories and pictures, and we’ll feature them throughout the year. You can also send us news updates about your life — marriages, children, new jobs, career highlights, etc. We’d love to feature them in our next alumni newsletter!

Stay connected and stay well,
