Welcome, Austin Montessori School Families

We're so glad you want to learn more about our high school! Over the years, we've welcomed many wonderful students from Austin Montessori to Headwaters, and we'd love to continue building that bridge.
We know that choosing your next school is a huge decision, and we hope that you'll discover all the ways that Headwaters continues the journey of self-discovery that you began at AMS. Please reach out to me anytime with questions, or to our Admission Team at admissions@headwaters.org.

Founded in 2001, we feature:
  • Small class sizes
  • Incredible educators
  • The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
  • Ample student leadership opportunities
  • A city-as-classroom approach
  • An incredibly personalized college counseling experience.
Our teachers are guides, pointing students in the right direction and giving them the resources to find their way while being careful not to limit their pursuits and interests. We promote collaboration and communication, depth over breadth, and genuine engagement.

Sincerely,
Avé Luke-Simpson
Director of High School

Ananya S., 11th Grader

I found everyone at Headwaters to be extremely welcoming, both when I started school and at the events before hand. As an introvert, the first week or so was a little bit overwhelming for me just because there were so many people, most of whom I didn't know, but I was able to settle in very quickly. Overall, Headwaters feels a bit like a bigger version of Gaines Creek, in that everyone looks out for each other, every student is treated as an individual, and all the adults are available to help us or talk to us.

Kate M., 11th Grader

As a former AMS student going into Headwaters for the first time, I was anxious and a little overwhelmed at the many new people there, as well as grades, remembering different buildings, and the extra hour added to the school day. But I soon realized that pretty much everyone there, especially your same-grade peers, are very friendly and welcoming to anyone new. And although I had to keep my class schedule with me for a while, I got used to and memorized what classes were in what buildings and on what days. TLDR, everyone here is very kind and helpful, and you'll get used to the different buildings and schedule pretty quickly.
