8th-Grade Holiday for 8th Graders on Thursday, May 28, 2026

8th-grade students will attend their finals on Friday, May 22; Tuesday, May 26; and Wednesday, May 27, 2026. (Monday is Memorial Day and a School Holiday)

On Thursday, May 28, 8th graders are excused from finals/school for a special holiday before graduation later that day.

What To Bring/ Not to Bring

  • Please do not allow your student to have their phone with them for the ceremony. It’s really hard to not be distracted by devices and we want everyone to be present.

What To Wear

We recommend wearing something that makes graduates feel comfortable and confident! Graduates will be walking across the stage, so we recommend shoes that fit well and allow for easy walking, too.

No Tickets or Reserved Seating for Families

First-come, first-served. All are welcome to attend!

Parking

Families are welcome to pay for parking at the Austin Central Public Library. The entrance to the garage is off of West Avenue. Please see this link for more details about the lot. If the lot is full try City Hall or use your favorite parking app.

Additionally, families are welcome to park on the Headwaters Campus (in a Headwaters spot) for free and walk over to the Library.
What are the Gates of Life?
At the end of each school year, we have a Gates of Life ceremony for students who are moving up and moving on. This tradition spans across the grade levels at Headwaters and is a treasured tradition. We recite these words to mark the transition, "An ending is but another beginning. Rejoice all ye who pass through these gates."
