Language, Culture, and Service: A Headwaters Immersion Experience
During Project Week in March 2026, a small group of middle schoolers will journey to Herradura de Rivas, Costa Rica for an unforgettable experience of language immersion, cultural exploration, and community service. This trip is designed to dramatically improve students' Spanish skills, deepen their global understanding, and empower them to step confidently into the wider world.

Through a partnership with Mr. Adventure Travel, this program offers a safe, authentic experience rooted in local culture—no tourist track, no big-group feel. Headwaters is the only school participating, ensuring a focused and intentional environment tailored to our students.

Trip Highlights

  • Daily Spanish language classes taught by local instructors
  • Homestays with Costa Rican families, where students practice speaking, share meals, and engage in daily life
  • Service opportunities that connect students with the local community
  • Outdoor adventures like hiking, surfing, and rafting (with adjustments as needed)
  • Guided excursions to Uvita and San José
“This is not just a trip—it’s a living classroom where students grow in confidence, language, and compassion.”
