The World Is Our Classroom: An IB Journey Through Italy
In October 2025, 27 Headwaters high school students traveled to Italy with EF Tours, joining peers from Monroe Area High School in Georgia. Over nine days, students explored Verona, Murano, Burano, Rome, and Florence—immersing themselves in the history, culture, and art they had studied in the classroom.

Highlights included:
  • Learning about traditional industries like gondoliers in Venice, glassblowing in Murano, and leatherworking in Florence
  • Visiting major historical and cultural landmarks with expert guides
  • Exploring each city independently to foster curiosity and personal reflection
The experience also tested students in real-world ways—through delayed flights, illness, and unexpected changes. In true Headwaters fashion, students supported each other with empathy, patience, and problem-solving, turning challenges into moments of connection and resilience.
“Traveling together tested our patience, strengthened our bonds, and reminded us why shared discovery is the heart of learning.”
This journey aligned deeply with IB values, encouraging open-mindedness, reflection, and intercultural understanding. As our students explored the past, they also shaped their futures as globally engaged learners.
