    All Saints Day

    Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

    Day of the Dead actually celebrates life and the life of the loved ones that have passed.Traditional dishes and a special bread is made to commemorate the life of our loved ones. The Day of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. It is widely observed in Mexico, where it largely developed, and is also observed in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage.

    Drop by the garden to get your hands in the soil and enjoy some time together weeding, cutting back plants, improving some bed borders, and other jobs. We will be in the garden on Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3 from 8:15-10:15 a.m.

    Feel free to bring your own gloves, and pruners. We will be preparing areas for some exciting restoration efforts to bring back some native pollinator loving plants. No need to sign up, just show up for some good fun! If you can't stay long, that's ok, you are welcome for any length of time. There are many other ways you can be part of the garden this year, drop by to find out!

    Election Day: Student Early Dismissal | Afternoon Staff PD (Special Schedule)

    Tuesday, November 7 is Flex Day morning and Early Dismissal for our River Campus. On this day, ALL MS/HS students will arrive by 8:15 a.m. and be dismissed at 12 p.m.

    All students will have an early release at noon. Please note the following:
    • The food truck will close before noon
    • Afternoon shuttle riders will depart River at 12 and arrive at Creek at about 12:20 p.m. Please be prompt in picking up your students as our staff will be in training beginning at 12:30. 
    • There is no aftercare/guided study
      However, there WILL be tutoring from 12-1 p.m. with Tania Prizio and Kelley Janes.  
    • There are no athletics practices

    Afternoon shuttle riders will depart Creek at 11:30 a.m. and arrive at River at about 12 p.m. Please note that the entire middle and high school will be also getting out at noon, so it will be a little busier than usual.

    • Here are pick-up directions for YCC families:
      • We will have two lanes of traffic going through the Menchaca circle drive. Bridget will be directing traffic and calling names on the radio for the guides to bring your child out to you. Please stay in your vehicle.
      • If you have both a YCC and Primary student, we will be bringing your Primary student to YCC pick-up so you only need to do one circle drive.
      • We encourage you to arrive a bit early for pickup so that we have more time and are less likely to be backing up traffic on Menchaca.

    Primary Notes

    • Please just pack a snack and water bottle for Primary children–they will not eat lunch tomorrow.
    • Please use the Primary Circle Drive for dismissal at noon. It will follow our normal protocols for dismissal.

    Veteran's Day (Observed)

    In most states, Veteran's Day is also observed on the weekday nearest to November 11. The holiday honours all veterans of the United States armed forces. Headwaters observes this holiday and school runs as scheduled.

    Our High School Football team is onto State Regionals and a chance of qualifying for the state championship! To help celebrate the team and their big game, we invite everyone on the River Campus to wear their blue and/or Hawks gear tomorrow (Friday, November 10, 2023).

    At the end of B4 tomorrow (about 2:45 p.m.), we will be doing a special send off as the team heads to San Antonio. We’re excited to send them off and cheer them on!

    Team parents are invited to come to campus to join in on the fun, too. MS parents, please note, drop off may be a little busier than usual tomorrow.

    The game is this Saturday, 11/11 at 10:15 a.m. at KIPP Cevallos in San Antonio (located at 239 Stark St, San Antonio, TX, 78204). If they win the Semifinal match, then the Regional championship match will be held at 12:45 p.m. (same day, same venue).

    Veteran's Day

    The holiday honors all veterans of the United States armed forces. A traditional observation is a moment of silence at 11 AM remembering those who fought for peace. (Commemorates the cease-fire in the 1918 armistice which was scheduled for "the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.") The day of recognition for Veterans of the Great War (World War I) on this date was first proclaimed by President Wilson on November 11th 1919. In May 1938, the 11th of November in each year was declared a legal holiday and was known as 'Armistice Day'.

    Giving Tuesday is just around the corner, and we invite you to join us on November 28, 2023, for a day of generosity. 
     
    Many of you have already participated in this year's Annual Fund and we are grateful!  If you have not already given your annual gift, now is the time.  Our goal is 100% participation from our families before November 28!

    When we return from Thanksgiving Break, we will be welcoming Eve Panzer, the Barefoot Librarian, to Creek for our fall Book Fair. Children will be visiting the library during the school day beginning Monday to preview the book fair. In-person sales will happen Tuesday through Thursday from 2:30-5 p.m. in the library. Come before dismissal to shop for gifts and surprises or come with your child after dismissal and shop together!
